The pressure is on the New York Giants coaching staff to right the ship before their Week 3 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs. Following a 0-2 start to the season, head coach Brian Daboll’s seat is getting hotter.
Per NFL insider Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen could be fired before the season ends if things don’t turn around quickly in New York.
“Sources tell me that head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen are hanging on by a thread, which should come as no surprise,” Pauline wrote. “The mood in the locker room has changed from trying to stay upbeat to the realization that the team must win, and win soon, or both could be out the door before the season ends.”
The Giants’ offense was uncompetitive in a 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 1. In Week 2, New York’s defense was the problem in a 40-37 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in overtime.
Despite their 0-2 record, the Chiefs will be a challenge for the Giants on “Sunday Night Football.” Each of Kansas City’s losses came by one possession against playoff contenders, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
More changes might be coming soon for Giants
Russell Wilson will get the start against the Chiefs, but Pauline has heard whispers that Daboll could turn to rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart for their Week 4 contest against the Chargers if the Giants lose big on Sunday. Dart is believed to be Daboll’s only “saving grace” left if New York starts the season 0-3.
Daboll went 9-7 with the Giants and won a wild-card game in his first year with the team in 2022. However, he’s gone 9-27 since. With Daniel Jones starting this season 2-0 with the Indianapolis Colts, Daboll faces more scrutiny in New York.
