Income tax: ‘Let the people decide’

Re: “Ferguson says he’ll support revised measure” (March 3, A1):

We rise up in frustration at the disingenuity and deceit of our federal government, yet when it is happening in our Democratic controlled state we say nothing.

Regardless of how one feels about the “Tax the Rich” measure, the “necessity” clause is blatantly intended to subvert the right of the people to weigh in on such key legislation.  Just as there is no “emergency” for President Donald Trump to use that loophole to impose tariffs and security goons, the only “necessity” here is that our Legislature believes it is above us because it cannot live within its means.

You live within your means; I live within our means; our state should too or at least let the people decide.

    Paul Lavallee, Seattle
