Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin’s breakup stunned fans after nearly eight years of romance, engagement whispers, and blended family bliss.

However, while the former lovers have reportedly moved on, someone close to them hasn’t.

Johnson’s mother, Melanie Griffith, is reportedly quietly rallying behind the scenes, desperately trying to fix what she believes was a “huge mistake” before it’s too late.

The picture-perfect relationship between Johnson, 35, and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, 48, ended abruptly in early June, despite nearly eight years of dating and reports of a secret engagement.

The couple, who first sparked romance rumors in 2017, had long been admired for their low-profile yet seemingly unbreakable bond.

A source revealed that the split left Johnson “devastated,” and it wasn’t the first time the couple had faced rocky terrain.

“They’ve had the same issues for some time,” insiders shared.

Yet despite those ongoing struggles, many believed they were in it for the long haul. After all, Johnson had grown incredibly close to Martin’s children with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, even stating in a past interview with Bustle, “I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.”

Still, their latest split appears more serious than previous ones, with both stars immersed in their respective careers and leading increasingly separate lives.

While Johnson and Martin are keeping their distance publicly, Griffith isn’t ready to accept the breakup.

The 67-year-old actress and mother of Johnson has reportedly launched a behind-the-scenes mission to reunite the pair.

“Melanie is desperately working behind the scenes to save Dakota’s strained relationship with Chris,” a source told the Daily Mail. “She’s convinced that they are meant to be together and isn’t giving up on them. She thinks her daughter is making a huge mistake and needs to meet Chris halfway.”

“Melanie has always felt a kinship with Chris, he’s like a son to her,” the insider added. She’s even taken things a step further by encouraging the couple to try relationship therapy and what some might call unconventional healing methods.

Determined to fix what she sees as a misguided split, Griffith has tapped into her spiritual network for support.

“Melanie has been seeking advice from her friends in the healing community, mostly in the Malibu area,” said a source close to the actress. “She’s been trying to get Dakota and Chris to work with a non-traditional couple’s therapist who incorporates energy work to help detect and detach generational trauma.”

The insider said Griffith believes all the couple needs is “some laser focus guidance to set them straight once and for all.”

Despite her history of multiple marriages, including two with Don Johnson and one with Antonio Banderas, Griffith’s intentions are anything but meddlesome.

“She doesn’t want to be the meddlesome mother, but she has years of recovery and practices a solid spiritual program,” the insider continued. “She said she’s coming from a place of authentic love for her daughter, rather than control.”

While Melanie Griffith pushes for reconciliation, the distance between Johnson and Martin only seems to grow.

Martin is deep into Coldplay’s world tour, with recent performances in Las Vegas, El Paso, and Denver. Upcoming tour stops include Toronto, Miami, and a massive run at Wembley Stadium in London.

Meanwhile, Johnson is promoting two movies back-to-back. The most recent, “Materialists,” a romantic comedy co-starring Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, hit theaters on June 13 and has already grossed $24 million domestically.

Even more ironically, Johnson is starring in a comedy titled “Splitsville,” a detail not lost on many given her real-life relationship woes.

Despite the couple’s current distance and mounting schedules, Griffith believes there’s still hope.

According to insiders, she thinks both Johnson and Martin need to “leave their egos at the door and lead with their hearts.”

“She wants them both to be happy,” the source explained. “If they’d just leave their egos at the door and lead with their hearts.”

Only time will tell if the actress’s efforts can rekindle what many thought was a forever love story.
