Jerry Jones names interesting candidate for Cowboys ownership

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most valuable franchises in sports.

Whether they win, tie or lose, they’ll always be at the center of the conversation, and the value will continue to skyrocket for as long as that’s the case.

However, Jerry Jones knows he won’t be around forever, and with the era of minority stakes in the NFL, he might consider stepping back at some point.

Talking to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, Jones claimed that if he ever considers selling the team, which is a big “if,'” he’d probably want Mark Cuban to buy it.

Jerry Jones would like Mark Cuban to own the Cowboys

“That’s exactly why, if you’re me, you would be open to that is because of the man. I have all the respect in the world for him, and I know what he did for the Mavericks and what he’s done for basketball,” Jones said. “You want to associate with the highest quality of [a person] who loves the game and then also at the same time wants to do something about it. Mark leads the way in that.”

Cuban’s time with the Dallas Mavericks wasn’t necessarily the most successful in terms of silverware.

Then again, he was a pioneer in the NBA, raising the bar for what a modern team should strive for in terms of facilities and player treatment.

As one of the most successful businessmen of his generation, and as a diehard sports fan, Cuban could certainly be an interesting candidate if  Jones were ever to consider selling the team.

Also, like Jones, he’s always been a hands-on guy who enjoys attention and being a close part of the team’s everyday operations, so it would certainly be a smooth transition of sorts.

Whether Jones will eventually sell the Cowboys remains to be seen, but there will definitely be plenty of candidates to choose from if it comes to that.
