Liam Payne’s death in October 2024 sent shockwaves across the world, leaving millions of fans struggling to come to terms with the loss of the former One Direction star.
Now, two years later, Payne’s legacy continues to be celebrated, with his former bandmate Harry Styles paying tribute by performing an unreleased song, “What Is Enough,” written after his passing.
As the world continues to mourn, many are still searching for answers about the circumstances surrounding Payne’s fatal fall from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
However, new evidence, witness accounts, and legal developments have shed further light on the singer’s final day and what happened next. Here are seven key discoveries that have emerged so far.
1. Liam Payne Reportedly Accumulated A $550 Alcohol Bill
According to The Blast, hours before his tragic death, Payne reportedly accumulated a $550 alcohol bill on the day he died, despite warnings from his psychiatrist about mixing alcohol with prescription medication.
Court documents detailed that witnesses saw hotel staff delivering alcohol to his room, including champagne for two women and whisky for the singer. Toxicology testing later detected alcohol, cocaine, crack cocaine, benzodiazepine, and prescription medication in his system.
Payne had previously discussed his struggles with substance use, revealing that isolation and struggles with suicidal ideation during One Direction’s rise contributed to his dependence on “pills and booze.”
2. Never-Before-Seen Hotel Photos Revealed His Final Hours

Thousands of documents and photographs from the police investigation offered a closer look at Payne’s final hours inside the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.
The images reportedly showed him moving around the property, interacting with two women, and spending time in a room where furniture was overturned and a television was damaged.
As reported by The Blast, the women, identified as sex workers the late singer contacted online, were some of the last people to see him alive. They arrived at the hotel at around 11:30 pm and recalled having difficulty communicating with Payne because of the language barrier.
Other photographs documented hotel staff delivering alcohol. The material added context to witness accounts about Payne’s condition before his fatal fall, although individual images alone cannot establish exactly what happened on the balcony.
3. Liam Payne Reportedly Feared Sending An Explicit Photo To A Minor

Another report detailed documents alleging that Payne worried he had mistakenly sent an explicit photograph to a minor shortly before his death.
The report said he contacted his friend Roger Nores about the concern. However, the reporting did not establish whether a minor actually received the image.
The same records alleged that Payne asked a woman to obtain cocaine and described his behavior during the hours before his death. These details formed part of a wider account assembled from investigative documents and witness statements.
4. Witnesses Described Payne’s Erratic Final Minutes

Those who spent time with the One Direction alum on the day he died confirmed he was unstable in the final hours of his life.
The two women, Aldana Serrano and Lucila Goitea, provided sworn statements about their time with Payne, alleging that his behavior changed during their visit.
The sex workers described an argument over payment and the damage to his hotel room, which was littered with drug paraphernalia. “It was a mess. There was tinfoil everywhere with traces of drugs. A drawer was full of it; there was more burned tinfoil on the couch… a lot of clothes thrown around… he smelled of alcohol,” Goitea recalled.
After a scuffle over payment during which Payne reportedly broke his Gold Rolex watch and smashed the TV, the women reportedly left shortly before 4 p.m.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed hotel employees carrying Payne back to his room at 4:54 p.m. Emergency services were contacted, and he died at approximately 5:07 p.m., just 67 minutes after the women left.
5. An Accused Drug Supplier Shared His Account Of Their Encounters
Braian Paiz, an Argentine waiter accused of supplying Payne with cocaine before his death, also shared his account of their encounters.
Paiz said he met the singer at a Buenos Aires restaurant before communicating with him online. He alleged that they later met privately and that Payne asked him for drugs on multiple occasions.
Although Paiz maintained that he did not sell cocaine to Payne for payment, he recalled having “flirty” Instagram DM exchanges with the singer before getting invited to his hotel room.
The waiter also alleged having a private, “intimate” moment with Payne weeks later after they drank, talked about music, and he bought two grams of cocaine for the late entertainer.
6. Liam Payne’s Death Investigation Continued After Exoneration

As more details about Payne’s death come to light, in July 2026 an exoneration was made.
According to The Blast, an Argentine court had cleared his pal Nores of involvement in Payne’s death after previously considering manslaughter and drug-supply accusations.
The court reportedly found insufficient grounds to pursue the remaining allegations against him. Meanwhile, two men accused of supplying drugs to Payne continued to face legal proceedings.
The developments followed earlier dismissals of criminal negligence charges against other individuals connected to the hotel. Despite these rulings, the wider investigation and legal questions surrounding Payne’s death continued.
7. Liam Payne’s Son Bear Named Sole Beneficiary Of His Estate

While the investigation into Liam Payne’s death remains ongoing with no definitive conclusion so far, the matters of his estate have been sorted.
In June 2026, court documents identified Payne’s son, Bear, whom he shared with singer Cheryl, as the sole beneficiary of his estate. Per The Blast, the estate’s reported net value was revised to approximately £21.9 million ($28.9 million).
Initially, Cheryl and music industry lawyer Richard Bray were appointed to administer the estate following Payne’s death without a will.
However, updated court authority allowed funds to be used for Bear’s education, welfare, and upbringing, while the remaining money is expected to be held in trust until he reaches adulthood.
