Re: “Lawmakers, it’s not hard to work in the sunlight” (June 1, Opinion):
Reading Jamie Nixon’s op-ed on lawmakers working in the sunlight, I am reminded again of how disgusted and disheartened I am by their desire to obscure what should be the total transparency of their work. If they don’t want the heat, get out of the kitchen and don’t feed from the public trough. Knowing that their deliberations about “our best interests” will be subject to review is one of the best ways to ensure that they think privately before they think publicly.
As an attorney, a trained mediator, a business person and a constituent, experience informs me that utter transparency by public officials (and almost everyone else) is a policy that is more healthy than stealth. Let the sun shine in.
