Re: “Trump administration moves to shutter U.S. library agency” (April 1, A2):
Imagine a place where everyone — regardless of age, income, or background — can find something they need. A place that offers stories to children, internet access to those without and a quiet corner to get some work done. That place is our public library, and it’s more than just a building with books — it’s the beating heart of our community.
The Trump administration is threatening library funding, proposing to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which supports libraries nationwide. Cuts to federal grants would reduce access to books, technology and community programs, disproportionately harming rural and low-income areas. Libraries need protection from political neglect and defunding.
When neighbors gather, ideas ignite,
In rooms where plans take powerful flight.
A space to meet, to dream, to grow,
A place where seeds of change can sow.
The library stands, steady and free,
A gift, a promise, for you and me.
Not just shelves, not just walls,
But the heart of a town, the home of us all.
