Lizzo Is Refusing To Use ‘Weight Loss’ To Describe Her Body Transformation

Lizzo has been on a journey to transform her body for some time now, and she’s making substantial progress.

However, during a new episode of Jay Shetty’s podcast, the “Good As H-ll” singer said that although she’s reaching her goals, she’s not describing her hard work as a “weight loss” journey.

Lizzo’s revelation comes days after her personal trainer, Shaun T, who’s known for his hit home workout DVDs like “P90X” and “T25,” slammed her critics for questioning whether her gains were of her own volition or the popular weight loss drug, Ozempic.

While appearing on the latest episode of the “On Purpose” podcast, Lizzo, who’s been vocal about body positivity since stepping onto the scene, revealed she’s no longer calling the pounds she’s shed “weight loss.”

Instead, she’s calling it “weight release.”

According to the “Juice” performer, the weight she’s lost “is not just fat or physical.”

“I released so much to get to this point and I think people can see that and I don’t want to describe anything as loss,” she said.

Lizzo continued, “I’m not experiencing any loss. I’ve actually gained so much.”

“I’ve gained a sense of self,” Lizzo shared. “I’ve gained a lifestyle that I actually really love and I’m like, ‘I can maintain this.’ I’ve gained new perspective on nutrition and the science behind cardio and weight lifting.”

Lizzo, who’s preparing to release her fifth studio album later in 2025, admitted she understands people may not fully grasp the reasoning behind the changes she’s making. However, that’s not stopping her from living the way she wants to.

“People aren’t going to understand this right now, but it’s the most body-positive way to experience what I’m going through,” she added. “I don’t want to use any negative terms.”

Elsewhere, during her chat with Shetty, the “Truth Hurts” Grammy winner also said that part of the reason she changed her verbiage is that she wants to be “intentional” with what she puts into the universe, especially considering that many young people look up to her.

“I want to be very intentional with the words that come out of my mouth,” she said. “There’s young people who are watching me and they’re experiencing what I’m putting into the world and they’re applying it to their own experience and their own life just like I did when I was a kid.”

Shaun T Blasts His Client’s Critics For Saying She Uses Ozempic

The Blast previously reported about Lizzo’s personal trainer, Shaun T, slamming his client’s critics for saying she’s using Ozempic to achieve her body goals.

For those unfamiliar, Ozempic, also known as Semaglutide, is a “drug that improves blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) when used in addition to diet and exercise,” per the FDA.

Shaun T, who has been training Lizzo for several months, called the accusations “wildly annoying” before saying people don’t want to give the singer her due credit. “People would rather hate before they give people props,” he said.

He explained that after working out with Lizzo in the gym and on the dance floor, he realized the 36-year-old is “very fit.”

“People think, like, just because someone’s like a quote-unquote plus size person … they’re not fit,” he said.

He also reminded people to focus on themselves and “to mind your business.”

“Because the people who are actually talking about, ‘Oh my gosh, that person’s using Ozemic,’ you’re probably not even working out. And the people who are working out, most of them are like, ‘Cool, if they are using Ozempic, I hope that they’re eating healthy,’ or something like that,” he finished.

The Singer Won’t Consider Herself ‘Thin’ When She Reaches Goal Weight

In the past, Lizzo has opened up about her desire to lose weight. She even revealed she was on an “intentional … journey” to get where she wanted to be.

But even when she does reach her final goal, the singer said she won’t consider herself to be “thin.”

“Even at the end of my weight-loss journey, I’m not going to be considered thin by any means,” Lizzo explained. “I will still be considered morbidly obese on the BMI. But I will be happy.”
