I have a spinal cord injury. This injury has shown me just how hard it is to afford long-term care. That’s why I’m voting “approve” on Senate Joint Resolution 8201 this year.
When I needed long-term care, I had to pay out-of-pocket because my parents were unable to take time off to care for me. Now, our state has a long-term care fund that exists to help people like me in times of need. This fund will also be a vital support for the majority of Washingtonians who will one day need long-term care — regardless of why we need it.
SJR 8201 is a commonsense measure that will allow our long-term care funds to be invested by the independent, nonpartisan Washington State Investment Board. This will help maximize returns on our long-term care dollars in the same way that our state maximizes returns on other state benefit and pension funds.
It’s a simple upgrade that makes our tax dollars go further. Vote “approve” on 8201.
