Meghan Markle Makes Dig At Drew Barrymore’s ‘Clingy’ Behavior

During a recent appearance on Drew Barrymore‘s talk show, Meghan Markle shared a good laugh with the actress as she talked about her family and her new Netflix series.

However, at one point, the Duchess of Sussex delivered a sharp six-word jab at Barrymore, jokingly referencing the host’s penchant for hugging and touching her guests.

A body language expert also observed that Meghan Markle’s regal, cautious posture contrasted with Drew Barrymore’s warm, clingy approach during the show.

Meghan threw a subtle dig at Barrymore during her Thursday appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” where she promoted her new Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan.”

While Barrymore is renowned for her overt displays of affection with guests, Meghan, usually known for her warm, welcoming hugs, appeared notably reserved.

During the interview, Meghan quipped, “I hear you like to connect,” before softening her barb by taking Barrymore’s hand and adding that the host’s touchy nature is “so sweet, though.”

Barrymore has become famous on her show for her “clingy” behavior with her guests, so it’s no surprise that the Duchess of Sussex was a little cautious about the talk show host.

According to the Daily Mail, body language expert Judi James noted that Meghan seemed unfazed by Barrymore’s famously clingy style.

“This is a rare pose from Meghan, who is normally the first one to move in with the hugs to register the warm, spontaneously tactile side that was apparently met with a tsunami of ice water from the royal firm back in the UK,” James explained.

“She has clearly met her match in Drew, whose tactile behaviors on her chat show are a signature part of the brand,” the body language expert further noted.

James added, “But it seems from this pose that what you get when you put two famously hugging women together is that one will bow out, namely Meghan in this case.”

The body language expert, James, claimed that Meghan “adopted” the same attitude she was met with in the UK back when she tried to hug members of the royal family.

“Meghan adopts a straight, polite, more regal-looking pose here, perhaps mirroring the kind of response she met with from the UK royals when she was busy hugging them,” James noted.

“Her hand is hanging in her pocket rather than reciprocating the display of affection and she’s flashing a wide social smile at the camera rather than tilting her head in a reciprocal gesture,” the expert added.

She continued, “Drew clings relentlessly though, curling her arms around Meghan’s waist in a partial koala embrace and tilting her head to nestle against Meghan’s locks.”

Additional photos captured Barrymore leaning into a noticeably cautious Meghan on the couch.

James explained that Barrymore’s “rounded cheek, pursed lip smile signals a sense of warm friendship and affection while Meghan looks rather more distanced emotionally and keener to communicate with the camera than with her host.”

During the interview, Barrymore revealed a childhood photo of herself meeting Meghan’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Recalling her early days as a rising star in E.T., Barrymore remembered being introduced to the then Princess of Wales and presenting her with a stuffed toy.

“It means so much to me to have met such an incredible human being who transcended everything. It was the honor of my life,” she gushed.

Meghan responded with a shy laugh, saying, “Oh my gosh, look at your little face—that’s so sweet. That’s really special. I will tell H [Harry] that, for sure.”

Meghan also shared a six-word vow that Prince Harry made when they first began dating in 2016.

While reflecting on the early days of her romance with the duke, Meghan recalled her college days working as a nanny for two Irish Catholic families.

One of the dads had told her, “When you meet your person one day, I want him to say to you the same thing that I said to my wife when we got married, which is, I vowed to always date my wife.”

Meghan explained that when they started dating, she asked Harry to make that promise, and he replied, “I vow to always date you.”

She added: “So we have this connection I think because we’re so committed to treating each other the same way you did before you had a ring on it before it was locked down when you’re just courting each other and you can see all the good and joy in that butterfly period and that’s I think what keeps things really alive.”
