NFL insider suggests Eagles are ready to make stunning Lamar Jackson move amid Jalen Hurts rumors

Throughout the first half of 2026, numerous stories have suggested that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman could consider moving on from Jalen Hurts in 2027 if the Eagles’ starting quarterback endures yet another disappointing season.

    Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens star signal-caller
Lamar Jackson has been the subject of interesting rumors for months, as he is only under contract through the 2027 campaign.

On Monday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of Sports Illustrated shared that he thinks Roseman could soon view Jackson as a potential replacement for Hurts.

When rumors linking Eagles with Lamar Jackson could get serious

“If the Eagles are still looking to upgrade at QB after this season,” La Canfora wrote, “I could see Howie Roseman inserting himself into this Lamar situation in a big deal. If Jackson isn’t extended by Week 1, they will be hanging a huge ‘Call Us About Our Quarterback After The Season’ sign on the front of their franchise.”

It’s believed that Jackson may want to become the league’s new highest-paid player this summer after the Kansas City Chiefs recently reworked Patrick Mahomes‘ contract to keep him signed through the 2033 season and give him a new average salary of $64M. In 2023, Jackson went public with a trade request before he received his desired extension. That agreement prevents the Ravens from trading Jackson without his consent or retaining his rights via the franchise tag after the 2027 campaign.

As for Hurts, reports throughout the spring have noted that he may be entering a make-or-break season regarding his Eagles tenure this coming September. However, he could look to receive an extension if he plays well this coming fall.

Ravens, Lamar Jackson talks could go “quite sideways again”

“There are many general managers and contract negotiators and agents who believe something is holding the Ravens back from simply giving [Jackson] what the market would warrant and that things could end up getting quite sideways again,” La Canfora said.

La Canfora also added that most quarterbacks “don’t go into lame duck years, and especially not while still in their 20s.”

It remains to be seen if Jackson will be signed via a new long-term extension when he turns 30 this coming January.
