The NFL legend shared candid details about his current health situation, but he concluded with some good news that brought relief to his admirers and loved ones.

Deion Sanders has publicly battled some medical problems in the past, including surgical procedures on his leg and foot. He even recently prepared a will in anticipation of any life-ending complication.

The former NFL player was quick to share the good news of his victory over bladder cancer alongside his physician and personal trainer. The revelation finally gave context to his sudden absence from coaching sessions for the Colorado Buffaloes team.

His trainer, Lauren Askevold, explained that after a routine scan, it was discovered that a tumor was present on his bladder, thus the need for a timely surgery, which luckily went according to plan.

Dr. Janet Kukreja, his physician, noted that the surgery was very successful, and now the coach is back on the grind. However, for the head coach, many things have changed since the surgery, including shedding a few pounds and developing unusual bathroom habits.

According to TMZ, he urged men to take their health more seriously and not skip critical medical checkups, which can be lifesaving.

Sanders had kept mum on details about his health issues before sharing the news of his recovery, but he did reveal in a recent interview that he had to put a will in place when things got scary.

Marca noted that the decision was not easy for him, especially when he had to identify which was which and determine who went to whom. But he said that it was necessary to sort everything out before one dies.

The candid interview, uploaded to his son’s YouTube page, highlighted a touching moment between the sportsman and his family, offering a closer look into how his loved ones likely handled the crisis.

“Bro, I just want to be there as your son… Now, as time went on, and as the battle was fought, and the battle was won, I see why,” the former NFL champion said in the mini documentary, which was taken during one of his doctor visits.

Sanders’ story about injuries and surgeries is filled with resilience and many triumphs. He went through one of the most challenging times of his life between 2021 and 2023 when he underwent multiple surgeries on his leg and foot, respectively, after a coaching injury at Jackson State.

The 57-year-old reportedly nearly got his entire foot amputated due to blood clot complications in that part of his body. But the wind did not blow over without leaving him something to remember it by.

Sanders eventually got two toes amputated on his left foot (his big toe and the one next to it). The whole medical debacle was a result of a turf toe injury that escalated into multiple surgeries, leading to an inflamed nerve that caused blood clots.

The 57-year-old comes from a closely knit family of five children and a sibling, Tracy Knight. Sanders is currently unmarried, but has welcomed his five children from two previous marriages.

His 9-year marriage to Carolyn Chambers produced three children: Deiondra, 33, and Deion Jr., 31. He then welcomed Shilo, Shedeur, and Shelomi from his former marriage to Pilar Sanders, which lasted from 1999 to 2015.

Shilo and Shedeur have stepped into their father’s big shoes by playing in the NFL. Shilo plays as a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Shedeur is currently a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Nothing is known relationship-wise about Sanders since his divorce about a decade ago.
