With most of the Week 9 NFL action in the books, let’s take a look at some of the league’s biggest winners from Sunday’s play.
Baltimore Ravens offense
Facing a Denver Broncos defense that allowed the league’s fewest yards per play (4.4) through eight weeks, the Ravens offense had a field day during their 41-10 beatdown at M&T Bank Stadium. Lamar Jackson, who’s trending toward becoming the sixth player to win consecutive NFL MVP awards, threw for three touchdowns and posted his fourth-career perfect passer rating (158.3).
On the receiving end of Jackson’s dominant outing was WR Zay Flowers, who hauled in five of his six targets for 127 yards and a pair of first-half scores. The least surprising result of the game came from RB Derrick Henry, who casually recorded his fourth 100-plus rushing yard and two-touchdown game of the season.
Henry now sits at 1,052 rushing yards and is on pace to finish 13 yards shy of a second career 2,000-yard rushing season.
Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley
Barkley stomped all over Jacksonville’s defense during Philadelphia’s 28-23 win on Sunday, rushing for 159 yards and a touchdown and adding 40 yards and another score through the air. He finished one yard short of recording his first 200-scrimmage yard game since Dec. 22, 2019.
His appalling numbers were far from the most impressive feat he accomplished in the game, however. On a third-down play early in the second quarter, Barkley introduced the league to a move that nobody has even thought to attempt on a professional football field: the backward hurdle.
