Ohio State snaps No. 11 Purdue’s 26-game home winning streak

The winning party just keeps on rolling in Columbus, Ohio, this week.

Less than 24 hours after the football team lifted the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy, Ohio State men’s basketball pulled off a massive upset on the road in the Big Ten conference.

The Buckeyes narrowly beat the No. 11-ranked Purdue Boilermakers 73-70 in a scrappy effort at Mackey Arena, once thought to be an impenetrable Indiana fortress.

It’s the program’s first win in West Lafayette since 2018, and it snapped Purdue’s 26-game home winning streak that spanned back nearly a full calendar year.

The Buckeyes, down 41-28 at halftime, mounted a massive second-half rally by outscoring the Boilermakers 45-29.

Senior Micah Parrish led the team with 22 points, outdueling his Purdue counterpart in Trey Kaufman-Renn, who put up 26 points of his own.

Ohio State shot a blistering 53.3 percent from the field and drained 11 shots from beyond the three-point line, fueling the epic comeback effort.

Purdue (15-5) was aiming to extend its six-game winning streak and convince Associated Press poll voters that it was deserving of a Top 10 ranking. That argument is no longer valid as it will now look to regroup Friday as it welcomes No. 21 Michigan to town.

The Buckeyes (11-8), on the other hand, ended a three-game skid of their own and will now enjoy nearly a week off before facing the Iowa Hawkeyes at home on Jan. 27.
