    Re: “Partisanship: ‘Elections have consequences’ ” (Dec. 18, Northwest Voices):

    I question the boilerplate use of the label “conservative” as the opposite of “progressive” in articles and opinion pieces discussing party politics.

    “Regressive” would be a more accurate label in most cases. Conservatives favor gradual, stable improvement as opposed to a radical retrenchment to some imagined past utopia. While there may still be a few genuinely conservative politicians, especially at the local level, the MAGA movement is unabashedly regressive and not conservative.
