Pit-stop pandemonium costs Verstappen at Monaco Grand Prix

The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix is one that Red Bull driver Max Verstappen would like to forget.

A rule change in February likely cost him the race on Sunday. The FIA announced that drivers must make a minimum of two pit stops at the Monaco Grand Prix, which prevents them from nursing a set of tires to the finish.

Verstappen — who started in fourth — was leading on lap No. 77 of the 78-lap race. However, he had only pitted once and had to stop to avoid being disqualified.

McLaren driver Lando Norris passed Verstappen while he pitted, securing his maiden win at the Monaco Grand Prix. Verstappen finished fourth behind McLaren driver Oscar Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. It’s the second consecutive year he hasn’t finished on the podium in Monte Carlo.
