Plane flying over MetLife Stadium sends clear message to Giants co-owner

New York Giants co-owner John Mara must consider making changes soon, or planes with banners won’t stop soaring over MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Before the Giants’ Week 15 home game against the Baltimore Ravens, The Athletic’s Charlotte Carroll shared a clip of a plane with a banner.

“Mr. Mara, enough: We won’t stop until you fire everyone,” the banner said.

This is the second straight week a plane with a banner has flown over MetLife Stadium.

Last week, the banner said, “Mr. Mara, enough: Please fix this dumpster fire.”

Giants fans are fed up with mediocrity. New York hasn’t won the NFC East since 2011 and has only made two playoff appearances during that span.

This season, the club has bottomed out. After their Thanksgiving loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants were the first team eliminated from the playoffs. Before Week 12, they released quarterback Daniel Jones, a former first-round pick.

Not to mention, former Giants running back Saquon Barkley — who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency — leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,623 in 13 games) entering Week 15.

Some of the Giants’ problems tie to head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. New York has made one playoff trip in three seasons under the regime.

The future of the GM and HC remains unclear, but it wouldn’t be stunning if Mara moves on from them at the end of the season.

“There reaches a point where keeping the general manager/ and or coach becomes bad for business,” wrote ESPN’s Jordan Raanan Friday. “It can affect sponsorship, ticket sales and the overall brand. That is when coaches and general managers get fired, when it’s bad for ownership’s pockets.”

The fan base may lose even more confidence if the Giants retain Daboll and Schoen, which could certainly affect Mara’s bottom line.
