Premier League roundup: Biggest stories from Matchday 3

The English Premier League wrapped up its third weekend of action on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Manchester City and Arsenal are tied at the top of the table with a perfect nine points from three games; Fulham and Coventry City remain glued to the bottom with zero points apiece.

Here are the key storylines from a busy weekend of EPL action.

Bournemouth dropped points from a winning position…for the third time this season

Bournemouth was one of the biggest surprises of the 2025-26 Premier League season. Under coach Andoni Iraola, the Cherries held their nerve against tough opponents and finished sixth in the table against the odds. Losing Iraola to Liverpool for 2026-27 was always going to throw Bournemouth off its rhythm, but the foundations of his team are still there—so it’s strange to watch it fall victim to a trend that never plagued it under his care.

That trend? Scoring first and throwing matches away. Bournemouth has led all three of its Premier League fixtures this season but it hasn’t managed to win a single one of them. This weekend’s indignity, an 88th-minute equalizer from Newcastle’s Jacob Ramsey to seal the game at 2-2, was the club’s third straight points-losing concession to occur in the dying seconds of the game after Everton equalized in stoppage time during Matchday 2 and Manchester City won in stoppage time during Matchday 1.

“Sometimes you have phases where things like these happen,” Bournemouth coach Marco Rose said, via BBC Sport. “We should go for our first win the Premier League to calm down this kind of talks.”
