President Donald Trump fired Air Force General Timothy Haugh, the Director of the National Security Agency (NSA) and head of U.S. Cyber Command.

General Haugh, a Biden holdover who assumed leadership of both agencies in 2024, has been relieved of his duties effective immediately, the New York Post reported.

General Haugh, who succeeded Gen. Paul Nakasone nearly a year ago, was informed by the White House that his tenure had concluded. His civilian deputy at the NSA, Wendy Noble, was also relieved of her duties.

Noble was reassigned within the Pentagon to the office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence.

No official reason was provided for the dismissals, but conservatives hailed the firings as a long-overdue purge of establishment figures.

During a Q&A session with reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump stated, “We’re going to let go of people we don’t like, people we don’t think are doing the job, or people who may have loyalties to somebody else.”

In the interim, Army Lieutenant General William Hartman, previously the deputy at U.S. Cyber Command, has been appointed as acting director of the NSA, while Sheila Thomas will serve as acting deputy director.

This decision comes amid broader efforts to recalibrate the National Security Council and other key agencies to better reflect the administration’s priorities.

Notably, this follows a meeting between President Trump and conservative activist Laura Loomer, who has been vocal about the need for personnel who are steadfastly loyal to the President’s agenda.

The Gateway Pundit reported on Thursday that during Loomer’s meeting with Trump, Loomer asked Trump to fire several National Security Council staff members, including his principal deputy national security adviser, Alex Wong.

Axios notes she was livid that multiple “neocons” had made it through the vetting process and obtained jobs in the administration.

CNN reported that one firing came as a direct result of Trump’s meeting with Loomer. It’s unknown whether the others were related or already in the works.
