Ravens acquire former All-Pro after missing out on Lattimore

After missing out on four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, the Baltimore Ravens are hoping Tre’Davious White proves to be a solid fallback plan.

Before the trade deadline passed Tuesday, the Ravens dealt a 2026 seventh-rounder to the Los Angeles Rams for White and a 2027 seventh-rounder, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reported the Ravens tried to acquire Lattimore but didn’t want to give up too much draft capital. The New Orleans Saints dealt him to the Washington Commanders instead.

The Ravens (6-3) needed an upgrade for their porous secondary. Baltimore ranks last in the NFL in passing yards allowed (280.9).

White, however, seems to be exiting his prime. Per Pro Football Focus, the 29-year-old posted a below-average 49.3 coverage grade and allowed a career-high 16.8 yards per reception in four games with Los Angeles.

The Rams defense has struggled in its first season under new defensive coordinator Chris Shula. L.A. has allowed the league’s 22nd-most points per game (24.3).

Still, White’s problems probably tie to injuries not Shula’s scheme. He tore his ACL in 2021 and his Achilles in 2023.

In his first seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills, White made two Pro Bowls and earned one first-team All-Pro nod. Perhaps the Ravens want to see if he has anything left in the tank.

Zrebiec doesn’t expect White to start immediately but noted he provides depth.

Ravens starting cornerback Marlon Humphrey already missed one game with an ankle issue, while Nate Wiggins missed two with a shoulder injury. Baltimore recently placed backup CB T.J. Tampa (ankle) on injured reserve.

“White is a well-respected veteran and has plenty of experience,” wrote Zrebiec. “A future seventh-round pick swap, about the lowest compensation you can have, was worth it to the Ravens to add a veteran insurance policy.”

This could be a decent move for Baltimore. White may become a valuable contributor for the Ravens defense. If he doesn’t, at least they didn’t give up too much to land him.
