Reneé Rapp Wants Listeners To Embrace Their Chaotic Sides With New Album

Over the last several weeks, Rapp has been teasing her fans with the idea of new music, and on May 21, the moment finally arrived.

The powerhouse singer and “Mean Girls” actress revealed the artwork for her second studio album, “Bite Me,” and shared that the full-length project will be released on August 1.

According to her website, where the 25-year-old is selling merch and limited-edition vinyls for the upcoming release, “Bite Me” is a “raw, unfiltered, and vulnerable album about self-acceptance in its truest form.”

The website also reads, “BITE ME encourages listeners to embrace every facet of their personality, the chaotic and the confident, and to be authentically, unapologetically themselves.”

Reneé Rapp Releases New Single ‘Leave Me Alone’ With Accompanying Music Video

Along with the album cover, Rapp released the lead single for her new era, “Leave Me Alone,” featuring raunchy, NSFW lyrics and a snappy chorus that repeats, “Leave me alone, b-tch, I wanna have fun.”

The accompanying music video is similarly provocative, showcasing Rapp and her girlfriends on a night out that ends with a wild pillow fight, leaving Rapp covered in blood.

During an interview with Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe, Rapp opened up about her hesitation regarding “Leave Me Alone” being the album’s first single.

“Oh my god, I mean, honestly, when we made it, I was like, ‘This is the worst thing ever,’” she recalled. “I actually had a terrible time making it. I was like, ‘This is ass. What are we doing?’ And then I was like, ‘Wait, I think it’s actually really good.’ It took me a minute.”

Did Reneé Rapp Throw Shade At Her Former Co-Stars?

Another lyric in Rapp’s latest single that sparked discussion was her perceived jab at her former “Sex Lives of College Girls” co-stars.

The show ran on HBO Max for three seasons before being canceled by the network. Rapp starred in the series for its first two seasons before her character was largely written out of the third to focus on her music career.

In “Leave Me Alone,” Rapp sings, “I took my sex life with me, now the show ain’t f-ckin,” sending fans into a spiral.

On Reddit, users reacted to Rapp’s new single and her provocative lyric, with many writing about how stunned they were by the singer’s choice of words.

Reactions on X, formerly Twitter, were similar, with one user posting, “Reneé Rapp, you’re not real,” while another wrote, “She don’t give a f-ck.”

However, some users expressed their disappointment with Rapp and the lyric, saying, “Love the song, hate that line.”

“I just think it’s a bit flippant given 600 people lost their jobs when that show got canceled,” the user finished.

“Why would she say that?” yet another user questioned. “That’s so rude. The show was her launching pad.”

Reneé Rapp Opens Up About Leaving The Show

Following the success of her first studio album, Rapp announced her departure from Max’s “Sex Lives of College Girls” in a lengthy social media post, praising the show for its positive impact on her career.

“College girls moved me out to LA and introduced me to some of my favorite people. 2 and a half years later – it’s given me y’all and this community,” she wrote before thanking the show’s creators. “Thank u Mindy [Kaling], Justin [Noble] and everyone at Max for believing in me.”

She added, “A lot of queer work gets belittled – but playing Leighton has changed my life. I love who I am 10x more than I did before knowing her. I hope she gave y’all a little bit of that too.”

“I wouldn’t be half the person I am without her and y’all,” the “Talk To Much” singer concluded. “I love that b-tch more than you know. I’m so excited for this season and I can’t wait for you to see what we have coming for her and the girls.”
