Re: “Gluesenkamp Perez won a Trump WA district. Now she faces leftist heat” (May 17, Local News):
I would like to think most of us want a representative who represents the voters’ interests — not party ideology nor for virtue signaling to quell naysayers on the fringe.
Regarding Washington U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, the issue is that she is voting with Republicans on some pretty dubious ideas like the SAVE Act. This proposed Republican bill panders to conspiracy propaganda about voting fraud. As a representative who was just reelected, she would do better to inform her voters that this bill could disenfranchise women who have changed their name when married. It will put the onus on local counties to pay for changing a voting verification system that quite literally already works. When local tax dollars are tight, why would she vote to take local money from needed programs to pay for a new system to stop voting fraud when it’s been proven to not exist?
Representatives who listen to their constituents and adhere to their oath of office to defend the Constitution are needed more than ever. Voters, don’t confuse this desperately needed virtue with pandering to the fringe.
