It’s a week before the NFL Draft, which begins on April 24 in Green Bay, and rumors are swirling.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is as plugged in as they come, and many consider him the most trusted source in the NFL. Schefter is reporting he knows exactly what the Tennessee Titans are going to do with pick No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft — pending any wild trades, of course.
“Those chimes are music to everybody’s ears and the Titans are on the clock and the pick is expected to be Cam Ward, barring some last-minute, unforeseen offer rolling into Tennessee,” said Schefter on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Thursday (h/t On3). “The Titans are looking for their quarterback of the future. They believe Cam Ward is their quarterback of the future and they look like they may be building around, their program around that quarterback.”
Cam Ward was a Heisman candidate at Miami, and he seems to fit the prototypical “franchise quarterback” makeup in 2025. He threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns last season for the Hurricanes, compared to just seven interceptions. He can also run a little bit. He added four touchdowns on the ground for Miami to bring his total touchdowns in 2024 to 43. A season before that at Washington State, he notched eight touchdowns on the ground.
There are risks with every pick, but Ward does seem to have the highest floor of all the quarterbacks. Shedeur Sanders may have the highest ceiling, but he’ll come along with some baggage for Tennessee — mainly his father, Deion “Primetime” Sanders.
Do you take the safe pick or do you take the high-upside pick? Speaking of Sanders, there’s always his teammate, Travis Hunter, who has the potential to be a star at wide receiver or cornerback in the NFL, and he wants to play both ways.
If Ward really is the pick for Tennessee, the Titans need to get this one right. They missed on Will Levis in the 2023 draft, but he was picked No. 33 and not at pick No. 1 overall.
