Seattle now has a higher percentage of male citizens than any other major American city. Men aged 18 and older constitute 52% of the Emerald City’s population.
This is quite different from most U.S. communities where women, because of greater longevity, generally outnumber men. The factor that skews the demographics in Seattle and other cities where high-tech is the major industry — such as No. 2 San Francisco and No. 3 Austin, Texas — is the dominance of males in all those tech jobs.
Arguably, for those looking for a male partner who is intelligent and well-paid, Seattle should be filled with good prospects. Hurry, though. Those smart guys are busy designing artificial intelligence systems that, already, are taking away entry level tech jobs. As AI-driven unemployment takes more and more jobs higher up the white-collar ladder, the tech bros may find themselves back living with mom and dad.
