With another dominant road course victory at Watkins Glen on Sunday, Shane van Gisbergen broke a NASCAR Cup Series record that stood for over two decades.

Van Gisbergen’s victory in Sunday’s Go Bowling at the Glen was his fourth of the 2025 season, breaking the record for the most wins in a single season by a Cup Series rookie.

Jimmie Johnson (three, 2002) and Tony Stewart (three, 1999) were previously tied for the rookie record for wins in a season. Van Gisbergen had previously tied the record with his win at Sonoma Raceway on July 13. All four of van Gisbergen’s victories in 2025 have come on road or street courses.

Van Gisbergen won Sunday’s race by 11.116 seconds over runner-up Christopher Bell after leading 38 of the race’s 90 laps.

Van Gisbergen also became the quickest driver to reach five Cup Series wins in NASCAR’s modern era (1972-present), reaching the milestone in just 38 Cup Series starts.
