The May 21 Seattle Times front page highlighted a stark difference in fiscal responsibility between state and federal budgeting. Gov. Bob Ferguson reports that Washington’s budget is balanced without using the rainy day fund. In contrast, the federal budget, as reported, could add approximately $3.3 trillion to the debt over the next decade.
Washington state’s approach balances revenue and expenses as compared to the federal approach, which imposes debt on future taxpayers. I sympathize with future generations who will bear this financial burden.
