Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers makes admission about his health

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers dealt with an injury during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 34-32 win over the New York Jets in Week 1. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN, Rodgers told the media on Wednesday that he dealt with back tightness against the Jets, which limited his mobility and hurt the offense despite what he called a solid effort by the offensive line.

“I don’t think I was moving that well, so I think I ran kind of into at least one or two sacks,” Rodgers said. “I got to do a better job of using my legs. I might be old, but I still feel like I can move around pretty good, and I wasn’t moving the way I usually like to move.

“I thought the protection was good for most of the game. There’s a couple fundamental things to clean up, but [offensive line coach] Pat [Meyer]’s taking care of those guys, and I just got to get the ball out.”

Aaron Rodgers was not on the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report on Wednesday

The injury doesn’t appear to be a problem leading up to Pittsburgh’s Week 2 game at home against the Seattle Seahawks, as Rodgers was not on the Steelers injury report released on Wednesday. But the issue is one to keep an eye on this week for the veteran quarterback.

Rodgers had a great day throwing against the Jets despite the issue, going 22-of-30 passing for 244 yards and four touchdowns. However, he did take four sacks for minus-26 yards. Two of the sacks led to drives that ended in punts. The health of the 41-year-old quarterback is paramount for the Steelers. Rodgers’ Achilles tear in Week 1 of 2023 crippled the Jets’ season.
