Summer House’s Carl Radke On His Top Marathon Training Essentials

Talking Shop is our series where we talk to interesting people about their most interesting buys.

Reality star, business owner and podcaster Carl Radke is rarely sitting still. He’s currently filming Season 11 of Bravo’s Summer House on the weekends in the Hamptons; he’s hosting events at Soft Bar, his Brooklyn-based non-alcoholic bar and cafe; and he’s recording episodes of his More Life with Carl Radke podcast, all while finding time to log dozens of miles a week while training for the 2026 Berlin and New York City marathons.

Radke is also celebrating the first anniversary of Soft Bar this month, where he’s fostered an impressive community of runners and reality TV fans. He even hosts a monthly run club, which includes a DJ set and alcohol-free cocktails.

If you follow Radke on Instagram, you’ve probably kept up with his running journey in some capacity — he shares his daily stats from Strava to show followers what he’s up to and to stay in touch with fellow runners. Radke even recently partnered with Strava to help launch its brand-new strength features. “Here at Soft Bar, we host a ton of different fitness and wellness events. So, working with Strava, now we’re just doing something more official, which is really cool and exciting,” he says.

I recently stopped by Soft Bar to catch up with Radke. He shared everything he’s incorporating into marathon training while balancing his busy schedule, and revealed all the snacks you might have even seen him eating on Summer House during road trips to the Hamptons.

Whether he’s running, weight training, on the golf course or in the yoga studio, Radke says there’s always some sort of electrolytes in his gym bag, like Drip Drop. “It’s not all running. I have days where I’m doing some core, some leg flexibility and stretching, but I also love hot yoga, bike riding and swimming,” he says. “Electrolytes are probably my non-negotiable. I’m always starting a workout or my morning with electrolytes. I feel more clear-headed, I feel energized and I feel hydrated.”

    Asics SuperBlast 3

Radke is no stranger to long-distance running — he’s currently training for his second marathon of 2026 which is this month in Berlin, followed by the New York City marathon in November. Depending on his workout of the day, he swaps out his shoes of choice. “I have running shoes for long runs. I have running shoes that are maybe just for an easy short run. So depending on what activity I’m doing, I always have to have a pair of shoes I’m excited to put on,” he says.

Radke also enjoys trying out new workout apparel and shoes. “If you feel good in the thing you’re wearing to workout in, I think it helps get your mind right,” he says. He was wearing the new, highly-cushioned Asics SuperBlast 3 when we spoke.

Nature Valley Crunchy Oats N’ Honey Granola Bars

As an original cast member of Bravo’s Summer House, Radke has been trekking from New York City to the Hamptons for the last 10 summers. “Every weekend — Friday, Saturday, Sunday — from the end of June until Labor Day, I’ve been doing that,” he says.

He and his castmates know exactly where to stop for provisions along the way during the three to four hour drive, but he also likes to bring a few road trip snacks from home. “Anybody that knows me from our group knows that I’m the snack guy,” says Radke. These Nature Valley granola bars are one of Radke’s all-time favorites, even though he admits their crumbs get everywhere, which you’ve likely experienced if you’ve tried them yourself.

    Canada Dry Sparkling Seltzer Water

Radke has been sober for almost five years, and he just celebrated the one-year anniversary of Soft Bar, his non-alcoholic bar and cafe in Brooklyn. When I asked if he has a favorite beverage for his road trips, he immediately recommended Canada Dry’s Seltzer Waters. “It’s the number one seltzer water. I don’t care what anyone says. It’s got the highest carbonation rate,” he says.

    Strava Membership

Radke says working with Strava is the most no-brainer partnership he’s ever done. He’s been using the platform organically for years, and is constantly sharing his progress with his followers from all over the country. “I have folks that follow my runs in Charleston, L.A. and New York, so I’ve been able to connect [with them] on a larger scale because of the Strava platform,” he says.

Although the platform is highly popular among runners, Strava extends beyond tracking jogs and walks — Radke even uses Strava to track his golf rounds on his smartwatch. The brand recently launched a new strength training experience built for those aiming to track lifting workouts, which Radke is incorporating into his marathon training routine.

“My running coach has me on a weight training program in addition to running,” he says. Most strength training features are now available in the app with a free membership, and there’s an expanded range of capabilities available with a paid subscription.
