The Detroit Tigers were the first team in Major League Baseball to get to 30 wins this season, but were in danger of being swept in a four-game series by the Cleveland Guardians. Then, Tarik Skubal took the mound and pitched a beauty. He posted a complete game shutout with 13 strikeouts, no walks and just two hits in only 94 pitches. He became the first Tiger ever to post such a stat line, and is the first pitcher in the big leagues to do it since Jacob deGrom in 2021.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Skubal is coming off of a pitching triple crown and Cy Young award in 2024 and seems to have picked right up where he left off – going 5-2 with an American League-best 92 K’s in 11 starts so far.
