Happy birthday to four-time Pro Bowler, five-time All-Pro, 1965 Rookie of the Year and member of the 1977 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, Gale Sayers!
The “Kansas Comet,” was selected fourth-overall in the 1965 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears (and fifth-overall in the AFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs) after playing his college ball at Kansas. As a rookie, he set a Bears single-season rushing TD record that has still only been matched by Walter Payton (14), and he finished the year with a still-standing Bears record of 22 total scores.
In his second season as a pro, he led the NFL for the first of two times he’d do so in his seven-year career (the second time coming in 1969). But knee injuries would limit Sayers to just four games over the next two seasons and force him into an early retirement at just 28 years old.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the players to score the most touchdowns in a single season for each NFL franchise can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
