The ‘Winter of Hypocrisy’ Is Coming Soon

Washington DC has its own special seasons. Cherry blossoms in spring, tourists in summer, and my personal favorite – the quadrennial “Principles Be Damned” festival.

It’s that magical time when a new president takes office, and we witness the spectacular phenomenon of politicos learning that everything they’ve been shrieking about for four years was actually perfectly fine all along.

This winter will be no exception. Here are some of the convenient conversions heading our way:

    Supreme Court “Reform”

Democrats spent four years trying to convince Biden to pack the Supreme Court or, at the very least, implement some scheme to swap conservative justices with liberals. They even ginned up a whole “watchdog” world to trash the court’s reputation and trigger those reforms.

Their sudden onset amnesia will begin in 40 days. Only the most radical Republicans will take up the banner, and they’ll be roundly smeared as “anti-democratic” by the remnants of the media machine.

    Executive Orders

Remember when Republicans thought Biden’s executive orders were one pen stroke away from full Stalinism? Now watch how fast “unconstitutional overreach” becomes “bold executive leadership.”

Meanwhile, Democrats who treated Biden’s $400 billion student vote-buying plan like it was the second coming of the New Deal will suddenly discover that bypassing Congress is basically the same as goose stepping to a fascist state.

    The Senate Filibuster

“I’ve been very clear, I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe, and get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need.” — Kamala Harris, 2024

“The filibuster has deep roots in racism, and it should not be permitted to serve that function …  a wicked tool used to kill legislation supported by majorities of Americans” — Sen. Elizabeth Warren, 2022

Don’t be surprised when Sen. Warren suddenly supports racism and wicked tools this January.

    Government Spending

The national debt is now $95,000 for every person in America. And who cares? Only Rand Paul, and whichever party is out of power.

The same Democrats who treated the Treasury like a casino ATM will suddenly channel their inner Milton Friedman. That $31 trillion debt they ignored while funding gender studies in Pakistan? NOW it’s a crisis.

Meanwhile, Republicans who spent years fainting over the debt ceiling will rediscover a secret formula to reduce the debt by spending more, using some sort of leveraged debt, and then applying magic coupons. So don’t worry about it!

    Department of “Justice”

Get ready for the fastest transformation since Bruce Jenner. The DOJ will go from “defenders of democracy” to “threat to our republic” the moment they investigate a Democrat. (And yes, that could take a while.)

    Bonus Quotes:

“The president needs to take a senility test!”

“Hey, how can the president take that many vacations and pretend to run the country?”

“Of course the president and his staff need to be protected by Executive Privilege.”

“Wow, the president’s kid belongs in JAIL for that. Damn bastard.”

The list goes on, but you get the point. By spring, these position swaps will be complete, and both sides will act as if they’ve always stood exactly where they stand now.

In Washington, principles aren’t really principles – they’re just temporary talking points waiting for the next administration. And that might be the only honest thing about politics.
