The NFL has a new highest-paid guard.
The Tennessee Titans guard Peter Skoronski has agreed to a four-year, $100M extension with $88M guaranteed, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Tennessee now has Skoronski under wraps through 2031, having exercised the left guard’s fifth-year option for 2027 during the offseason. The team was under no immediate pressure to hammer out a long-term pact with Skoronski, but general manager Mike Borgonzi made it known during the winter that he wanted to get a deal done.
Mission accomplished for Borgonzi, who previously signed stalwart defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to a massive extension this summer.
Skoronski is the latest beneficiary at a position that has seen a substantial increase in prices in 2026. In the last week alone, Skoronski, the Falcons’ Matthew Bergeron ($96M) and the Bills’ O’Cyrus Torrence ($78.4M) have scored enormous four-year commitments. Bergeron was briefly tied with the Cowboys’ Tyler Smith for the largest average annual salary among guards, but the honor now belongs to Skoronski ($25M). While Skoronski also paces guards in guarantees, the Falcons’ Chris Lindstrom is tops in overall value ($102.5M). However, Lidstrom is on a five-year arrangement and averaging $4.5M less per season than Skoronski.
Former Titans GM Ran Carthon drafted Skoronski 11th overall in 2023, when the Northwestern product was coming off a decorated college career as a left tackle. The Titans shifted Skoronski inside, though, and he has since established himself as one of their most successful first-round selections in recent memory. As PFR’s Sam Robinson noted last week, before the Titans’ negotiations with Skoronski crossed the finish line, Simmons and now-retired left tackle Taylor Lewan had been the team’s only first-rounders to ink extensions in the past 16 years.
The durable Skoronski has started in all 48 games in Tennessee, where he enjoyed his second straight full season in 2025. The 6-foot-4, 313-pounder was the Titans’ only offensive player who was on the field for every snap last year. While lining up for 1,056 plays, Skoronski allowed just one quarterback hit and two sacks. Skoronski finished as Pro Football Focus’ second-ranked pass-blocker at his position and the fifth-best guard overall among 79 qualifiers. Additionally, it was the second straight year in which Skoronski was a top-20 guard in ESPN’s pass block win rate metric. He climbed to seventh after checking in at No. 15 in 2024.
Despite Skoronski’s efforts, Titans quarterback Cam Ward was among the game’s most harassed signal-callers in 2025. While facing the fourth-most pressures (230), last year’s No. 1 overall pick took an NFL-high 55 sacks and the league’s second-most hits (108).
After going a dismal 3-14, the Titans installed a Robert Saleh-led coaching staff and were aggressive in upgrading their roster in the offseason. It now appears Ward is in a better situation, especially with accomplished offensive coordinator Brian Daboll leading his development. If Ward proves to be the long-term answer for the Titans, the Skoronski extension means he will have a premier guard protecting his blind side for the foreseeable future.
