For two-and-a-half centuries, Maj. Gen. Benedict Arnold has been cited as the most odious traitor to America because he switched sides in the Revolutionary War.
That defection to the British side was nefarious, but of little real consequence, especially when compared to the actions of the current president of the United States.
President Donald Trump is a traitor to the rule of law, having warped the U.S. Justice Department into a tool of personal retribution for himself.
Trump is a traitor to fair and free elections, having instigated an assault on the U.S. Capitol to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump is a traitor to American principles of equal justice, fair legal procedures, and basic humanity due to his deadly and cruel war on immigrants.
Trump is a traitor to ethics and honesty in government, thanks to his unceasing schemes to enrich himself and his family by leveraging the influence of the sacred office he holds.
And Trump is absolutely a traitor to democracy and freedom with his attempt to violate sanctions against Russia that were imposed because of Vladimir Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine.
Trump has announced an illegal plan to buy Russian diesel oil. Were it to go forward, the deal would do nothing to lower fuel prices in the United States but would gift to Putin a massive flood of U.S. dollars to reinvigorate his war of aggression against a free and democratic state that has looked to America for support.
Let’s forget Benedict Arnold. Donald Trump is Vladimir Putin’s most valuable asset and America’s worst traitor.
