With only two bidders for building new electric ferries, one of which is in-state and at a higher cost than the out-of-state Florida bid, if two go to Florida and two are awarded in-state, we will get new boats faster. Two boats could be built at the same time, one in each location.
I am all in favor of in-state, but we need boats as soon as possible. I live on Whidbey Island, where Nichols Brothers Boat Builders is located, and I want them at least to get a piece of the action. Let’s award bids to each boatbuilder, stay partially in-state and get them built quicker.
