When Connor McDavid entered the NHL at the start of the 2015-16 season he did so with enormous hype that that almost seemed impossible to reach.
He has not only reached it, he has arguably exceeded it in becoming the most dominant offensive player in hockey and already one of the all-time greats.
He achieved a major career milestone on Thursday night when he recorded his 1,000th career point in the NHL, the fourth fastest player to reach that mark.
That point came on a second period goal against the Nashville Predators to tie the game.

It is fitting that the goal was assisted by Leon Draisaitl, who has been the Oilers’ second-best player behind McDavid over the past 10 years and also one of the league’s best offensive players.
McDavid has already won five scoring titles and three MVP awards in his career, while also winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in the 2024 playoffs despite his team losing the Stanley Cup Final in seven games to the Florida Panthers.
He is the 99th player in NHL history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
McDavid is still only 28 years old, and with the way he produces has a chance to reach some truly historic numbers in his career. He is already 99th on the NHL’s all-time scoring list, and if he continues to score like he has throughout his career he could easily crack the top-70 by the end of this season.
The only thing his career is missing at this point is a championship. He has done everything in his power to win one, but the Oilers have not always put a great team around him.
