Winning championship is ‘all that matters’ to Joey Logano

Joey Logano’s NASCAR playoff philosophy can be summed up by a phrase from the late Al Davis: “Just win, baby.”

You won’t find Logano feeling bad for the way in which he wins races and championships. At the end of the day, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and future NASCAR Hall of Famer knows that the Bill France Cup looks the same, regardless of the way he attains it.

That’s the mindset the 35-year-old native of Middleton, Connecticut, has going into Sunday’s Round of 8 opener at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Joey Logano staunch in his views on winning a title

“Honestly, I don’t care how we move on,” Logano said in a news conference at LVMS on Saturday. “I don’t really care how we win the championship. I just want to win. I don’t care how we get there. I’ve always been that way, I’ve always said it’s about the big trophy at the end of the day. That’s all that matters.

How we do it doesn’t matter. Whether it’s no wins, five wins, I don’t care. If it’s close at the cut line or easy (to advance), it doesn’t matter. It’s all about winning the trophy. My message was, we’ve made it this far, let’s not waste the opportunity.”

It was at Las Vegas a year ago that Logano scored the victory that propelled him to the Championship 4 at Phoenix, where he won his third Cup Series title. Another win in Sin City on Sunday would give Logano the opportunity to defend his 2024 championship.
