Cindy Crawford And Richard Gere
Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere were once one of Hollywood’s It 90s couples. The pair met in 1988 at a barbecue hosted by late fashion photographer Herb Ritts and instantly connected.
After three years of dating, they decided to take things a step further and eloped to Las Vegas to tie the wedding knot.
According to Cosmopolitan, Crawford said, “Richard and I had been dating for several years, and at one point, I was like, ‘Are we doing this or what?’ And he said, ‘Let’s go to Vegas tonight.’”
Not letting their 17-year age gap get in the way of love, the duo had a spontaneous wedding. Crawford wore a navy-blue Armani suit and married Gere with a ring fashioned from tin foil.
“I wore this Armani suit. It was a nice Armani suit, but I didn’t dream of getting married in a navy-blue suit. And the ring was made out of tinfoil because it was so last minute,” Crawford reported at the time.
They separated in 1994 and were officially divorced the following year. Crawford stated that they ended things because they weren’t able to make enough time for each other.
Taylor Swift & Tom Hiddleston
Pop royalty Taylor Swift and “Loki” star Tom Hiddleston were, in the summer of 2016, locked in a romantic affair. Fresh off her separation from Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, Swift began her short-lived relationship with Hiddleston.
Hiddleston told the Hollywood Reporter, “The truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we’re very happy.”
The pair were photographed kissing and embracing near the pop star’s Rhode Island home and generally being sweet on each other. Hiddleston even famously wore an “I Heart T.S.” shirt announcing his love to the world.
Their whirlwind relationship, which only lasted three months, saw Swift travel to England with the actor to meet his parents and to Australia, where he was shooting “Thor: Ragnarok.”
The relationship died shortly after the Australia trip, and in an interview with GQ after the breakup, Hiddleston said, “Taylor is an amazing woman. She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time.”
Swift has never directly spoken about this time in her life, but fans have theorized that her song “Getaway Car” references her short romance with the Marvel actor.
Ryan Reynolds & Alanis Morissette
Long before Ryan Reynolds was entertaining the world as Deadpool or married to “Gossip Girl” alum Blake Lively, he was engaged to Canadian artist Alanis Morissette.
The two reportedly first met in 2002 at Drew Barrymore’s birthday party and quickly became one of Hollywood’s most interesting pairings.
They got engaged two years later, with Reynolds popping the question and flying to Ottawa to ask Morissette’s parents for her hand in marriage, according to Us Weekly.
Speaking to People Magazine, Morrisette said of her then fiancé, “He’s just such a supportive creature. I feel so loved by him, in a trampoline kind of way. He’s always very happy for me.”
She added that Reynolds was, “like a soul brother to me, except that I want to jump his bones.” Reynolds was no less smitten, telling the outlet, “We feel like we’re already married.”
Despite the passion, they never made it down the aisle and would announce their split in February 2007, ending an approximately five-year relationship.
Cher & Tom Cruise
This one may sound unreal to the uninitiated, but it was as true and passionate as any other romance on this list.
The pop goddess and Cruise had their meet-cute at Madonna and Sean Penn’s wedding in 1985; Cruise was 22 while Cher was 39.
They reconnected at a White House event later that year. According to People, Cher said that the relationship was “pretty hot and heavy for a little minute.”
Cher and Cruise’s relationship was brief but clearly left an impression on the 80-year-old, who said on an episode of “Watch What Happens Live!” that Cruise was in her top five “all-time best lovers.”
Sandra Bullock & Ryan Gosling
Here we have another Hollywood age gap relationship between a 37-year-old Sandra Bullock and a 21-year-old Ryan Gosling who met on the set of the 2001 psychological thriller “Murder by Numbers.”
Despite the 16-year difference, the Hollywood A-listers dated for two years before quietly ending things in 2003.
According to Mamamia, she credited Gosling with teaching her to take things slow: “I live my life at a manic pace, and he’s taught me to disregard all that isn’t important. He’s like a little Buddha.”
In an interview with Us Weekly, Gosling called Bullock one of the “greatest girlfriends of all time.”
Cameron Diaz & Justin Timberlake
“Jameron” was one of the more popular early 2000s couples. Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake were linked romantically from 2003 to 2007.
Though they were seemingly head over heels for each other, neither was reportedly in a rush to tie the knot. When asked about a possible engagement, Timberlake made it clear he wasn’t ready to commit.
According to Nicki Swift, Ellen DeGeneres asked the NSYNC star if she should be getting a bridesmaid dress; he replied, “The only thing is, you’ll have to stay the same size for the next 15 years.”
Diaz was equally unwilling to settle down, telling DeGeneres, “You know the answer to that, Ellen. I’m a commitment-phobe. Don’t want to do it.”
