A reunion could be out of the question between Astros, Bregman

Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown made some comments at the club’s annual media luncheon on Tuesday suggesting that Bregman would not be returning to the team this offseason.

Per Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Brown stated that the team “lost Bregman” and spoke about the right-handed slugger twice in the past tense.

Brown backed this up by saying that he has had “internal” conversations about the matter because he is still available but he also mentioned that he has not had any discussions as of late with Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras.

Bregman, 30, has been with the Astros since he made his MLB debut in 2016 and has done a lot for the organization. He also has multiple All-Star selections in 2018 and 2019 and helped Houston win two World Series rings in 2017 and 2022.

Not to mention, he had a decent 2024 campaign playing in 145 games posting a .260 batting average with 26 home runs and 75 RBI. With all this being said, if the stars align and there is a deal that could be be made between the two parties than never say never.

However, with the way the current market for Bregman is shaking up it just doesn’t seem likely.

Other teams in the mix on the Bregman sweepstakes besides the Astros are the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.

Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reported that the Detroit Tigers “are still interested in Bregman after signing right-hander Jack Flaherty to a two-year, $35M contract” on Monday.

The Tigers and Bregman would make for a great pairing as he is the solution to their problem: another right-handed bat. Petzold also noted that the Tigers “have conducted their offseason moves around their interest in signing Bregman, as they declined to upgrade the offense with other notable right-handed hitters.”

While Bregman’s destination is still undetermined, one thing remains crystal clear and that is where the Astros stand on the situation.
