Re: “Fighting modern-day gender imbalances in school” (May 27, Education Lab):

I commend Student Voices contributor Thien-Nhi Nguyen for her efforts helping girls pursue courses and careers in STEM fields.

Before moving to Kent, I worked and studied in all New England states, teaching math and some physics in two high schools and college. I ended up as the mathematics curriculum consultant in the Vermont Agency of Education, where I had the opportunity to help girls and women pursue courses and careers in STEM.

It was frustrating at times, but very satisfying when my efforts had good results. I trust that Thien-Nhi will have an equally satisfying career.

    Bob Kenney, Kent
