Re: “Washington secures AmeriCorps funding from Trump administration” (Aug. 29, Local News):

AmeriCorps is the successor to Volunteers in Service to America, which was founded in 1965 as a domestic version of the Peace Corps. President John F. Kennedy originated the idea for VISTA, although it was created after his death.

I was a VISTA volunteer on a Paiute reservation in Northern Nevada in the early ’70s, working with the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada.

I’m grateful to our Attorney General Nick Brown and other Democratic-led states for securing the release of this funding to continue the work of AmeriCorps volunteers.

    Linda Brown, Renton
