    Climate change: Global carbon tax

Re: “Bill Gates was right: Make climate spending about results” (Nov. 26, Opinion):

Todd Myers is correct. Meeting the massive threat of climate change requires the most effective tools at our disposal. However, the solutions he proposes only address individual actions to reduce electricity. A global carbon tax is the single most effective solution.

The Trump administration showed that it understands this when it swooped in to block the formal adoption of the International Maritime Organization’s global carbon tax, thereby protecting fossil fuel profits. But worldwide, the trend is clear. Many developed nations, but not the U.S., have a carbon tax. Fossil fuels will be a ruinous chapter in our past — either before or after they destroy the civilization they helped build.
