Heavy fog triggers longest caution in Rolex 24 history

Felipe Nasr and Porsche Penske Motorsport won the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway for the third consecutive year on Sunday, but it was Mother Nature who arguably had the most impressive achievement in the 24-hour endurance race.

Heavy fog that rolled into Daytona Beach late Saturday night lingered into Sunday morning, making it extremely difficult for drivers and spotters to see. That led to an extended caution period that ended up being the longest yellow in the history of the race at six hours, 33 minutes and 25 seconds.

That equated to 120 laps being run under caution on the 3.56-mile road course configuration at Daytona.

    Connor Zilisch shares his thoughts

Connor Zilisch, a 2026 NASCAR Cup Series rookie driving the No. 31 Cadillac, was in the car for almost four hours during the extended caution period.

“It’s just boring,” Zilisch told Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass. “Not much else to say about it. Probably some of the most miserable hours I’ve ever had inside of a race car.”
