Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep just had a viral run-in at Milan Fashion Week, and social media users are losing their minds over the two powerhouse women being in the same room. Their reunion comes just weeks after Wintour, the former longtime editor-in-chief of Vogue, finally got candid about Streep’s iconic “The Devil Wears Prada” character being inspired by her.

Anna Wintour And Meryl Streep Cross Paths At Milan Fashion Week

In a video shared on Instagram, Wintour and Streep are seen greeting each other in what appears to be a green room or holding space at Milan Fashion Week 2025.

“How are you?” Wintour asked Streep as the two women lovingly embraced each other and exchanged a hug. “I can’t believe you flew from New York to Milan.”

Both women were dressed to the nines, with Wintour in a long floral gown and her signature bob, while Streep sported a long brown trench coat and a tight up-do reminiscent of her character, Miranda Priestly, leading many to speculate they could be filming scenes for the upcoming sequel.

The official Vogue Instagram account captioned the special moment, “Can you please spell Gabbana,” referencing a scene from the 2006 film.

According to a previous report from The Blast, Wintour is believed to be the inspiration behind the 2006 film, which stars Streep alongside Anne Hathaway. It’s based on the book of the same name, written by Lauren Weisberger, Wintour’s former assistant.

While appearing on a recent podcast, Wintour opened up about the film’s plot, which follows a demanding fashion editor and her low-level assistant, and revealed that people in her circle were far more concerned about the movie’s portrayal of her than she was.

“I think that the fashion industry were very sweetly concerned for me about the film, that it was going to paint me in some kind of difficult light,” she said.

Later, she called the production “highly enjoyable” and “very funny.” Wintour even praised the actors in the film, adding, “It had a lot of wit. It had Meryl Streep. I mean, it was Emily Blunt, [and] they were all amazing. In the end, I thought it was a fair shot.”

Social media users were electrified by Vogue’s Instagram post, flooding the comments with witty reactions. “Omg she just met herself!!!” one user wrote, while another wrote, “Their giggles sound so expensive.”

A third user added, “Anna fan girling over Miranda is something I didn’t see coming,” and a fourth simply wrote, “Iconic.”

Over on Reddit, the reaction was much of the same, with one Redditor writing, “I love this far more than is warranted by two women standing and chatting. But the heart wants what it wants!”

Another quipped, “Can they please keep this in the movie?”

A Sequel Is Coming In 2026

The timing of Wintour and Streep’s meetup is particularly poignant, as Streep is currently filming scenes for the “Devil Wears Prada” sequel.

The second movie will follow Hathaway and Streep as their characters navigate “the decline of traditional magazine publishing.”

It will also see Streep’s character face off against Emily Blunt’s character, “who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with the advertising dollars that Priestley desperately needs.”

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Streep may have been at Milan Fashion Week, filming scenes for the upcoming sequel, which is scheduled for release in theaters in May 2026.

Other details about the upcoming sequel have been kept confidential by those involved. However, images of the actors filming on location in New York City this summer have been circulating online.

In one image, Hathaway and Streep are spotted together in the middle of what appears to be a central NYC park. Another photo shows Hathaway with her co-star, Stanley Tucci.

Another viral moment from the filming of the second movie shows Hathaway getting into an intense confrontation with a paparazzi photographer. “You guys have to relax,” she could be seen saying in the clip. “Does everyone know there are children on set? So everyone is going to relax and we’re going to have a very nice evening because we have children here.”
