Former rap star Ca$h Out, once known for topping the charts, has now been sentenced to life behind bars.

Prosecutors called it a “seven-year reign of terror” that finally came to a chilling end.

Ca$h Out’s Rise And Fall Ends In Life Sentence

Ca$h Out, born John Gibson, was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 70 years after being found guilty in his Atlanta trial.

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, the sentences will run concurrently and stem from a mix of rape, RICO, and sex trafficking charges.

The trial revealed a darker side to the rapper’s life, one far removed from his breakout success in the early 2010s.

Known for his 2012 hit “Cashin’ Out,” which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Rap Airplay chart, and his follow-up “She Twerkin” in 2014, Ca$h Out appeared to fade from music as his criminal activity escalated.

Family Ties In the Ca$h Out Trafficking Case

The investigation revealed that Ca$h Out didn’t act alone.

His mother, Linda Smith, was sentenced to 30 years, while his cousin, Tyrone Taylor, received the same life plus 70-year sentence as the rapper.

Prosecutors accused them of forcing women into sex work, leveraging his fame to lure victims.

“This has been going on for seven years,” said Fulton County prosecutor Earnell Winfrey. “This ain’t just straight pimping—this is trafficking.”

Evidence included texts pulled from eight different phones.

While the defense argued that victims were pressured into testifying, the jury sided with the prosecution’s chilling narrative of control and abuse.

Despite releasing only one album, “Let’s Get It,” in 2014, Ca$h Out briefly tasted fame.

However, his downfall was steep and irreversible. The initial charges were filed in June 2023. Authorities claim he used his celebrity as a weapon to commit crimes.

The rapper’s legacy now lies in ruins, with a lifetime prison sentence ensuring there’s no comeback for him.

Ca$h Out was born on August 15, 1990. He rose to prominence in 2011 with his breakout single “Cashin’ Out” which was released under Epic Records and quickly gained traction.

The track peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned platinum certification from the RIAA, solidifying Ca$h Out’s recognition as a notable name in hip-hop.

Before his music career took off, the rapper faced legal troubles, including a gun charge in Clayton County, Georgia, in 2009. After being acquitted, he decided to focus on music and signed with independent label Bases Loaded.

His debut single “Cashin’ Out” appeared on his mixtape “It’s My Time” and later caught the attention of Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid. During their meeting, Ca$h Out performed “Smilin’ In My Face,” sealing the deal.

Following its re-release by Epic Records in March 2012, “Cashin’ Out” became a hit across the country, topping the Hot Rap Songs chart and reaching number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The song was widely remixed by high-profile rappers like Ludacris, Da Brat, Bow Wow, Akon, Fabolous, and Yo Gotti, many of whom featured on the official remix.

After his initial success, Ca$h Out released the follow-up track “Big Booty” in July 2012. In 2013, he collaborated with Future on the song “Another Country.”

However, it was his 2014 single “She Twerkin” that marked his return to the charts. Released after signing a new deal with E1 Music, the track debuted at number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving him his second chart entry.

“She Twerkin” served as the lead single for his debut studio album “Let’s Get It,” released on August 26, 2014.

The album was originally titled Patience and marked a new chapter in Ca$h Out’s evolving music career. While it only moderately entered the Billboard 200, it confirmed his presence in the rap scene beyond his initial hit.
