Candidates: Get to know, understand small businesses

Re: “Is this the year Seattle goes socialist? It’s sure looking that way” (Sept. 13, Local News):

Irrespective of the political leanings of any would-be mayoral or City Council candidate (and we thank them for a willingness to serve the community), every one of them elected should be required to spend their first two weeks shadowing and really listening to small business owners in their constituencies. Then they can clearly understand the challenges of running a business, and what it takes to make payroll and prosper (and, therefore, pay tax) in a heavily regulated business environment.

A community can only thrive if the businesses that serve our neighborhoods too can afford to prosper.

    Paul Suzman, Seattle
