During a recent appearance at the New Yorker Festival, Demi Moore reflected on her time filming “A Few Good Men” alongside Tom Cruise.

She shared an unexpected revelation about an awkward on-set moment.

The actress admitted that her pregnancy during preproduction seemed to leave her co-star uneasy, describing the experience as both “embarrassing” and “a bit awkward.”

At 62, Demi Moore has plenty of stories from her decades in Hollywood, but few are as revealing as her memory of working with Tom Cruise.

Speaking with writer Jia Tolentino during an October 25 Q&A at the New Yorker Festival, the actress recalled being nearly eight months pregnant with her second daughter, Scout Willis, while reading lines for the 1992 courtroom drama.

“I think Tom was quite embarrassed,” Moore stated, per PEOPLE Magazine, adding that the dynamic on set felt unusual. “I actually felt okay about it. I was moving around, though, right? But I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward.”

The actress, who shares three daughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, with ex-husband Bruce Willis, said that despite her comfort, Cruise seemed unsure how to navigate the situation.

At the time of filming, the early 1990s Hollywood scene wasn’t exactly welcoming to pregnant actresses.

Moore believes that may have played a big part in Cruise’s discomfort.

“Not many of our Hollywood peers were having children at the time,” she explained. “It’s one of the many things, for me, that I just felt didn’t make sense. And so I challenged that to say, you know, ‘Why not? Why can’t you have both?'”

For Moore, the question wasn’t just about career balance but also about challenging an entire industry mindset.

“But with that, I think, came a lot of pressure I put on myself to, in a sense, prove that it was possible,” she said.

Looking back, Moore recognizes how much she pushed herself during that period.

Her determination to have it all led her to juggle intense filming schedules and the physical demands of pregnancy.

Demi Moore admitted that her drive to prove herself often crossed into overachieving territory.

“I look back at that time now, and I go, ‘What the f-ck was I thinking? And what was I even trying to prove?'” she confessed. “But it wasn’t as supported as it is today. You know, to be breastfeeding and then blocking and rehearsing a scene.”

The actress, who has long been open about her personal and professional challenges, said she wanted to show that women didn’t have to choose between their careers and their families.

Yet the price of that mindset was high: long hours, physical strain, and the constant need to perform at her peak.

Still, Moore said she finds comfort knowing that things have changed for women in Hollywood.

She noted that the next generation of actresses “won’t have to strive for as much,” adding that today’s young mothers in the industry are far more “supported.”

Even before giving birth, Moore was determined to fit into her “A Few Good Men” military uniform.

“I was going to be in a military uniform, and probably overly anticipated and started working out and trying to get in shape even before she was born,” she said.

The actress laughed as she recalled just how active she was in her final days of pregnancy.

“I did a two-and-a-half-hour hike the day my water broke. I did a 24-mile bike ride, and then was dancing at a reggae club — hence why she came two-and-a-half weeks early.”

Despite the pressure she felt, Moore now views that time with gratitude and humor.

Her story offers a glimpse into an era of Hollywood when expectations for women were rigid, and one actress dared to push back.

Reflecting on her career today, Moore says she is inspired by how far the industry has come.

“The thing that’s moved me the most is, obviously, I knew women of my age would absolutely relate and connect,” she said, “but it’s the young people that have come up who have seen themselves in this that has moved me the most.”

    Demi Moore Redefines Ageless Confidence

Moore’s influence in Hollywood doesn’t stop at pushing boundaries.

She also continues to challenge the industry’s narrow beauty standards, as was recently seen in a bold new Glamour photoshoot celebrating her as one of the magazine’s Women of the Year.

Speaking with co-star Margaret Qualley, Moore reflected on how her hair became an emblem of self-expression and quiet rebellion.

“After I shaved my head when I did G.I. Jane, which was a very powerful experience on many levels, but I just started to let it grow,” she shared.

Rejecting the idea that older women must cut their hair short, Moore added, “I didn’t believe it, and it didn’t make sense to me why that had to be the case.”

For her, maintaining her long hair is an act of empowerment and individuality.
