Dolly Parton’s closest loved ones have gathered at the Nashville cemetery where the country music legend is set to be laid to rest beside her husband of 58 years, Carl Dean. About a dozen relatives reportedly arrived at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum on Friday morning carrying flowers, just three days after Parton died at age 80. The private gathering appeared to fulfill the singer’s request for an intimate farewell surrounded only by immediate family. However, it remains unclear whether the gathering was Parton’s official funeral or another private memorial ahead of her burial.

Exclusive photographs obtained by Page Six showed Parton’s somber relatives arriving at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum on Friday. Among those spotted at the cemetery was Bryan Seaver, Parton’s nephew and longtime head of security. Seaver, who announced her death on behalf of the family, reportedly coordinated with police and security personnel before greeting relatives as they arrived.

One insider claimed that the cemetery was “crawling with cops” shortly before the family appeared. An officer at the scene reportedly said, “The family is en route.” Seaver appeared to be “in charge” of the private gathering, according to the outlet.

While Page Six could not initially confirm whether the funeral had taken place, Parton’s representative previously revealed that the singer wanted a “small and private service” attended by “immediate family.”

Parton will be laid to rest beside Dean, who died in March 2025 at age 82. The couple had been married for 58 years. Parton’s name had already been inscribed on the bronze frontispiece of their tomb by Wednesday. The memorial reportedly depicts a peaceful mountain landscape inspired by the couple’s Tennessee roots.

The couple met outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat shortly after an 18-year-old Parton moved to Nashville. They married in 1966 and remained together until Dean’s death nearly six decades later.

Woodlawn Memorial Park is also the final resting place of Dean’s parents and several celebrated figures in country music. Parton’s former collaborator Porter Wagoner and her longtime friend Tammy Wynette are buried there as well.

Parton reportedly planned to be buried in a cotton dress and her signature stilettos, allowing her trademark glamour to remain part of her final appearance while prioritizing comfort. “Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because, after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest,” Seaver said in part while announcing her death.

The singer also revealed years earlier that she wanted the country-gospel song “If We Never Meet Again” performed at her funeral. “[The song] talks about, ‘If we never meet again this side of heaven, I will meet you on that beautiful shore, where the charming roses bloom forever and where separation come no more,’” Parton said during a May 2014 interview.

She explained that the hymn was her father’s “favorite” and had also been performed at his funeral.

Dolly Parton Opened Up About Her Declining Health

Parton died on August 25 following what her family described as a “brief battle” with unspecified cancer. Just four days earlier, the “Jolene” singer spoke candidly about her declining health and acknowledged that she had neglected some of her own needs while caring for Dean.

“As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,” she told PEOPLE.

Parton also reflected on the serious health problems she had overcome earlier in her life. “You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this,” she continued. “Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health.”

Rather than sending flowers, Parton’s family has encouraged fans to donate to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the free book-gifting program she founded in 1995.

Parton created the initiative through The Dollywood Foundation after witnessing how her father, Robert Lee Parton, was affected by his inability to read or write. Although she considered him one of the smartest people she knew, she understood that illiteracy had limited his confidence and opportunities.

The program began by mailing books to preschool children in Sevier County, Tennessee, regardless of their families’ income. It later expanded internationally and now sends free, age-appropriate books to children from birth through age five across five countries.
