More importantly, he had seven tackles and an interception to help the Eagles beat the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. At 28, Baun is in his prime and someone Fangio would love to have back next year.
2. Sign RG Mekhi Becton to a long-term deal
After appearing in 31 games in four seasons with the Jets, Becton came to Philadelphia as a backup before a preseason injury to second-year guard Tyler Steen forced him into a starting role at a new position.
As a guard, the 6-foot-7, 363-pound lineman finally lived up to the potential that made him the 11th-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Still just 25, Becton could hold down the right guard position until 34-year-old All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson is ready to retire. Johnson is signed through 2026, and Becton should be as well.
3. Trade QB Kenny Pickett
In his first year as an Eagle, Pickett went 1-0 as a starter in relief of Jalen Hurts. Before that, he was a first-round pick of the Steelers, going 14-11 in 25 games. Philadelphia gave up a third- and two seventh-round picks to get him in 2023 and could add some by trading him to a quarterback-needy team.
Five NFL teams, including Pickett’s old club, need a starting quarterback. Unfortunately, options in the upcoming draft are limited beyond Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
At least one team could use a quarterback with Pickett’s experience. Philadelphia has been pleased with the progress of third-string quarterback Tanner McKee, the team’s sixth-round pick in 2023.
4. Extend HC Nick Sirianni
Since joining the Eagles in 2021, Sirinni has a 68-48 record, two Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl title. His methods can be maddening, but his results are hard to argue.
The 43-year-old coach signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the team in 2021, making him a free agent at the end of next season.
5. Choose DT Milton Williams
Williams and teammate Josh Sweat combined for 4.5 sacks in Super Bowl LIX, and both appear ready to cash in as free agents. With just over $13M in cap space for next year, the team is unlikely to re-sign both.
Sweat led the team with eight sacks in the regular season, but he’s two years older than Williams. His market value is also expected to be $20M higher than what Williams should see. Given the recent success of young, inexpensive pass-rushers like Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith, a tackle like Williams could be more critical to the team’s long-term success.
