Re: “Democrats will regret their Epstein Files glee” (July 18, Opinion):
I’m not sure what warning columnist David Mastio is trying to give Democrats. Is he trying to tell Democrats to not sell their souls by allowing others around them to spread lies, allowing the worst elements of their party to take power, like conservatives have done? Or is he trying to deflect any responsibility away from conservatives and direct blame toward Democrats?
The right’s obsession with pedophiles started with the right-wing conspiracy theory that there was a secret “Democrat” pedophile cabal that controlled the government. Remember “Pizzagate”? The Epstein story aligns closely with that conspiracy theory, and now many on both the left and the right just won’t let it go.
Maybe the real warning is that you should not spread stories that can later implicate you.
