    Hanukkah attack: A path forward

Re: “Father and son gunmen kill at least 15 people in attack on Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach” (Dec. 14, Nation & World):

Happy Hanukkah. Unfortunately, that is not so in Australia. This attack in Sydney is the reason that most Jews around the world believe there should be a Jewish state.

As a proud Zionist, and like most of my Zionist friends, I do believe there should be a two-state solution. Hopefully, this new phase will move in that direction. But it needs to be formally acknowledged and supported by both sides. Building trust is a big part of the process. This means Hamas needs to be totally disarmed and the Jewish settlers in the West Bank need to be accountable for their illegal behavior.
